Creating a new, productive routine
There is always still time to create an amazing week that gets you a HUGE step closer to where you want to be, building on new habits you are after.
Let’s play a drinking game, take a sip (of WATER! 😂) every time you read the word choice!
Today I want to briefly explain how every little choice will spring you right into the next one.
Imagine these two scenarios.
Habits: They build the moment you wake up
You wake up right on time. You jump right into a book, a workout, or some work you want to complete. You grab a breakfast you love the taste of, and you feel ready to attack the rest of the day. This is what building new habits is all about.
In fact, you feel so damn good, you even make your bed! Then you crush it all day, no matter what crazy things got thrown at you, and you come home to a beautifully made bed, and smile knowing you gave it your all.
Now imagine this: (let me first say we’ve all been here) you just hit snooze for the 5th time, you roll out of bed, can’t find a nice outfit, you forgot to plug your phone in and it’s already half dead at 6am, and you run out the door because you have no time for breakfast.
You go through a drive thru and end up waiting 20 minutes anyway, and now you have a stomach ache all day. Or you didn’t even choose to do that, now you have nothing in your system and feel like a zombie trying to get through the day!
What else do you think is going to happen? By this time, it’s only 7am!
A wrench in your routine may increase productivity
I know I’m simplifying and generalizing here, but stick with me. You can see the difference that even one little choice at the start of the day can make.
When this not so favorable situation starts to unfold, try to throw a wrench in it as fast as possible. Set up safety nets for yourself to at least do some damage control. Keep a phone charger, a bottle of water and a protein bar or a snack bag of nuts in your car. Keep some handheld fruit in the kitchen like bananas or apples. Pick out your outfit the night before. The less thinking you have to do is only going simplify your choices and turn into success.
This is how we stop those full days or full weeks of your goals being on pause from happening in the first place.
Building on new habits
Now take it one step further. Finish that water bottle on your way to work. Do some neck stretches at a red light. Take some deep breaths. Create a plan for the rest of the day focusing on the top priority items. If you just get those done, you are still way ahead. Now act like it. You have to be the person you want to become, RIGHT NOW!
By the way, I hit snooze today. But… I didn’t let it piss me off. I decided that choice wasn’t going to help me, but I wasn’t going to let the next one do the same thing. Years ago this would’ve thrown off my whole day. Today I still got my work done, and I still got to the gym. That’s just my schedule. Yours is going to vary,
but whatever comes next can be POSITIVE!
It doesn’t have to keep going downward, so don’t let it!
Get it done this week!
