what is nutrition counseling?
Nutrition counseling is a long term endeavor between a practitioner and a client. It differs from the normal medical model of purely short term intervention and brief education, which isn’t realistic. It is individualized and evolves over time, instead of us only educating you from a standardized action plan that doesn’t fit your needs and lifestyle.
As private practice practitioners, we spend more time together so you leave with your exact needs met. You are listened to, and understood. Everyone on our team has been on the other side of the table and that’s why we’re here to help you. With visits as frequent as you need, and a closer connection than a five minute discussion in a hospital bed, we build a relationship that sets you up for success. The goal is for you to work with a nutrition therapist, and not just a nutrition educator.
Nutrition therapy and counseling is the state of the art method of getting people to reach their goals. It is the future of nutrition, because it is a client centered approach that focuses on beliefs, emotions, and behaviors. These all particularly relate to the theme of food and eating. This approach results in forming long term relationships with the practitioner and the client, which creates outcomes they desire. These plans created together will never be alike from person to person, and will continue to evolve over time.

Here’s how we do it: fill out our application! After you send it in, we will get everything taken care of, so all you do is sit back and wait for a phone call from us explaining your coverage. It’s always a little different, but the majority of the time you will be covered and we can meet with no out of pocket cost! This is true even if you don’t have a health condition! Your plan will pay for preventative nutrition counseling services!

You won’t be sold supplements, meal replacement shakes, pills, detoxes, or anything besides food, knowledge and a positive attitude. We are here to make your life easier, not even more challenging. You have enough to tackle from day to day.
We don’t ever restrict food. ANY food. We focus on why you feel like that needs done in the first place. You will be challenged on everything you thought you knew about nutrition and a healthy lifestyle, and we will give you the science behind it so we’re not another source of confusion.
We exist to make sure you feel comfortable in your own skin through changes that we make on your terms. We will guide you into making the right decisions in a way that feels like you’re not even trying, while you still get the results you’re after! Our approach is different than most because we understand the only way for your results to appear and truly stay for the long term, is to make them achievable and sustainable in the long term, no matter what gets in your way.
the above information sounds great, but what are we actually going to accomplish together?
The end result will always depend on your goal. However there are a handful of outcomes we make sure everyone meets by the time they are ready to fire us. Yes, there is a time where you will fire us! The goal is to give you the knowledge, but more importantly the ability to apply these new habits in your life forever, and continue the progress we create. Read these statements out loud, and imagine yourself being able to do all of these. Imagine how much better you will feel. Once you know, you can’t unlearn these things!

What makes your team qualified to provide this service?
Everyone on our staff is a Registered Dietitian, with a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in human sciences and nutrition, and has gone through a 1200 hour internship participating in work at many different locations including but not limited to: hospitals, school systems, long term care facilities, prisons, community centers, and fitness centers. Following our college coursework and internship, we take a national examination and are licensed in each individual state that we practice in. A handful of our staff even has Master’s degrees! Anyone graduating by 2024 or after now is required to have a Master’s degree to become a Registered Dietitian. Not only do we have the education, but we have the experience helping hundreds of people from all walks of life. It’s our mission and passion to make you feel better, one bite at a time.
What is the investment I have to make?
You may not have to make a monetary investment at all! Only your time and effort will be needed. After you apply and we check what your health insurance is willing to cover, we go over what may not be. They love to hear you are looking to make changes toward a healthier lifestyle and are usually happy to cover our services so that leaves nothing to you out of pocket, except sometimes a small copay! In the event that your insurance is not willing to cover our work together, we have affordable private pay rates. We also accept HSA, FSA and Flex cards and can apply our work toward your deductible!
Why can’t I pay one of you to write me a meal plan?
You can pay someone to do that for you (not us), but what happens when you stop following that exact meal plan? How often do you see yourself eating the same thing, day in and day out? Does that sound like something you can keep up for the rest of your life? There are better ways to reach your goals, and they're more in depth and personal than a simple meal plan created by an algorithm. Your life is so much more dynamic!
Can you guide me a on path that is constantly evolving? I hate eating and doing the same stuff!
Definitely! Variety is the spice of life. Eating the same foods over and over again is not sustainable in the long term and you deserve more than a simple cookie cutter framework. Everything we ever do will be personalized, so by learning what you love and what you don’t enjoy, we can create something that fits perfectly in your life so you get constant enjoyment out of what you do.
I have a dietary restriction. Can I still work with you?
You sure can! That’s just another reason why you should! We accommodate any conditions, restrictions, food allergy, intolerance, or preferences you may have. We won’t let anything hold us back from getting you where you want to be!
What are you going to need most from me so I can make the most progress & get the best results?
To keep this answer short, the number one thing you can do for us is turn in your weekly check in & other various forms (depending on what we are utilizing) 24 hours before our coaching calls! This is imperative because it gives us an entire day to analyze what you provide, and come up with strategies to get you the best results possible based on that information. If these forms are returned late, it can impede progress and we want you to get the best value from us possible, you deserve it!
A bonus answer to this question is going to be a positive attitude! By investing in yourself through a nutrition counseling program like this, you’ve already taken a huge step that will change your life. During our program you will be reminded of this and we ask you to keep a mindset that allows you to see just how much value you are providing for your future self. We believe in you, and we are going to help you believe in yourself to achieve everything you want to with us.
Will I be counting calories to reach my goals?
If you like to, yes. If you don’t like to, no. We will figure out what’s best for you so that you keep getting consistent results. Calorie counting is useful to gain awareness fast, but is far from necessary. It can be used as a vehicle to obtain certain results for certain people, but it is not meant to be the destination, and you certainly won’t be counting calories for the rest of your life, no matter what we do together.
Do i have to give up my favorite foods and drinks?
No, not at all. We will make changes to your eating habits, but nothing that will keep you from enjoying your favorite things. There is always a way to implement these items and no way of eating should ever restrict you from what makes you happy. If it does, run away fast!
How long will it take to reach my goal weight?
That is a great question, and it depends on so many factors. We will discuss in depth the time frame it will take and what you will have to do to reach that goal weight, or any goal, during our initial assessment.
What if I miss a check in?
Life gets in the way of prior commitments sometimes. We can always arrange a new check in, but the more you stick to our check ins, the faster you can succeed in the program! The accountability and support is huge here. Sometimes you just need to sit and reflect with someone who is as focused on your health as you are. You will make progress the fastest by doing this regularly!
Are you going to boss me around?
Of course not! We want you to be fully confident and comfortable knowing this program is built for you; no two are alike. So it will be enjoyable for you, and we will implement changes that get you the results you wish for, without removing any fun in your life! No matter what happens, our dietitians will never require you to do anything, boss you around, shame you or judge you. If you want that, go somewhere else. All we will do is give you recommendations based on what we think will help the most, based on science and experience. We will also remind you of the reason why you came in our door, because together we work on finding a reason why that is strong enough to keep you focused.
How are we going to schedule appointments?
Using the portal (you will create an account in preparation for your initial meeting!), you can log on and pick your dietitian to schedule and reschedule with. You can pick any location we have to meet, or a phone appointment if you can’t make it in! You will be able to see your dietitian’s availability all in one place. If you have trouble or need to make a different arrangement, you can always call or text our office line at 330-720-9676.
What’s the best diet to follow?
The best way of eating is the one that you will find yourself sticking with. Many methods work for many people, but we will work together to eliminate what doesn’t work and incorporate what does, so we can keep you healthy, fulfilled, and achieving anything you set your mind to.
I don’t know where to start! What if I don’t know what steps to take?
That’s what we do for you! You can be sure to make progress by working with us at any level of your journey, and we encourage you to take that step wherever that is. Whether you’ve never changed your lifestyle at all, or you’ve been tracking and reaching your goals for years, there is always valuable knowledge and insight we can share with you on your path.
Do you give fitness recommendations as well as nutrition counseling?
We can guide you along with general exercise recommendations, but our primary goal is to help with your diet! Luckily we have some trusted friends in the industry that are extremely qualified to guide you on the path of exercise.
